Orthotics can be prescribed by a physiotherapist to relieve pain in the foot or lower extremity (knee, hip, back). They are helpful for people with foot problems, arthritis, or chronic injuries. They are often used by those that stand or work on their feet for prolonged periods, as well as athletes. In recreational or professional athletes, slight imbalances can create pain with the forces and repetition associated with sport. An assessment of the lower limb including gait analysis is performed by the physiotherapist to ensure proper prescription of orthoses.
